UNIBEN STUDENTS PROTEST OVER THE DEATH OF COLLEAGUES

UNIBEN students ,on Tuesday, takes over  the Benin-Ore  Expressway for hours in protest for the death of two students, allegedly knocked down by an Army patrol vehicle last Sunday.

Vanguard gathered that while the female student who was knocked down died Monday morning, the male student is in a critical situation at the hospital.

But reports reached the students yesterday morning that both of them may have died and the angry students embarked on a protest, demanding for a pedestrian bridge across the road, and a speed breaker on the eight-lane road to prevent a recurrence of the incident.
They insisted that compensation should be paid to the families of the victims within seven days, else they will embark on another protest.
The protest grounded activities on the busyBenin- Lagos Road for several hours, as motorists parked their vehicles waiting for the students to disperse.
The Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Francis Osagiede, doused the tension, when he addressed the protesting students, assuring that the university authority will look into their demands as soon as possible.
