The man who stayed up playing video games all night in the hours before his threemonth old son died faces manslaughter charges, alongside the baby'smother.
Cody James Shields, 23 and Brittany Shane Daniels, 22 - both from Bellingham - were arrested Thursday in connection to their son's death last December, caused by a 'prolonged period of Mi parental inattention'.
Three-month-old Lucian Mykael Shields died weighing just nine pounds, seven ounces - about a pound more than his birth weight, reported the Bellingham Herald.
In statement released Friday, Police said: 'The circumstances leading to Lucian's death began far before the day that he died.
'Evidence indicates that he had been fed little to nothing in the days leading up to his demise.'
And an autopsy into the child's death revealed Lucian had almost no fat on his body and that the his stomach and small intestine were empty, said police.
Malnutrition, dehydration and 'neglect of ordinary care of infant' contributed to the cause of death, which was ruled as homicide, said the county medical examiner.
Details about the fateful night on December 8 were also revealed in their first court appearance at Whatcom Superior Court in the County Jail Friday.
